# Deprecation of the Instagram Basic Display API

> Meta closed the Instagram Basic Display API on December 4, 2024. Personal accounts no longer work. Here is how to fix your widget.

On December 4, 2024, Meta closed the Instagram Basic Display API. This was the way apps such as SnapWidget read posts from personal Instagram accounts. Read [Meta's announcement](https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2024/09/04/update-on-instagram-basic-display-api/).

Since then, personal Instagram accounts do not work with SnapWidget or any other tool that shows Instagram posts. Only creator and business accounts work.

## Does this affect my widget?

It does if your widget was connected to a personal account. On your [dashboard](https://snapwidget.com/dashboard), these widgets show **Requires Re-Auth**, and they no longer show new posts.

## Fix your widget

**1. Switch to a creator or business account**

In the Instagram app, [switch to a creator account](/docs/instagram/switch-to-a-creator-account). It is free. Skip this step if you already have a creator or business account. Not sure? [Check your account type](/docs/instagram/check-your-account-type).

**2. Open the widget**

[Log in](https://snapwidget.com/login) to SnapWidget and click the widget on your dashboard.

**3. Reconnect your account**

Click **Reconnect** next to **Username**. In the **Select Your Instagram Account** window, click **Sign In With Instagram**. If your account is linked to a Facebook Page, you can click **Sign In With Facebook** instead.

**4. Save the widget**

Click **Update & Get Widget**.

You do not need to change the code on your website. The widget starts to show your posts again. Do these steps for each widget that shows **Requires Re-Auth**.
