# Why am I getting a message saying my widget needs to be updated / re-authed?

> Your widget lost the connection to your account. Connect the account again in SnapWidget. The code on your website stays the same.

Your widget lost the connection to your account, so SnapWidget can no longer get your posts. You see one or both of these:

* **Your widget needs to be updated** in the widget on your website.
* **Requires Re-Auth** under the widget on your [dashboard](https://snapwidget.com/dashboard).

To fix it, connect the account again (re-auth). The widget keeps the same code, so you do not need to change anything on your website.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Instagram widgets need a creator or business account. Personal accounts stopped working on December 4, 2024, when Instagram closed the [Basic Display API](/docs/instagram/basic-display-api-deprecation). If you have a personal account, [switch to a creator account](/docs/instagram/switch-to-a-creator-account) first. It is free. Not sure? [Check your account type](/docs/instagram/check-your-account-type).

**1. Open the widget**

[Log in](https://snapwidget.com/login) to SnapWidget. On your [dashboard](https://snapwidget.com/dashboard), click the widget that shows the message. To find it faster, type its name in **Search widgets...**.

**2. Click Reconnect**

Click **Reconnect** next to **Username**.

**3. Sign in to your account**

For Instagram, the **Select Your Instagram Account** window opens. Choose one option:

* **Sign In With Instagram**: for a creator or business account. Instagram opens in the same tab. Sign in and allow access. Instagram then sends you back to your widget.
* **Sign In With Facebook**: for a creator or business account that is linked to a Facebook page. Sign in to Facebook in the window that opens, then click your Instagram account in the list. Use this option for a [hashtag widget](/docs/instagram/hashtag-widget).

For Facebook, X and TikTok, a sign-in window opens. Sign in and allow SnapWidget to read your posts.

**4. Save the widget**

Click **Update & Get Widget**. You do not need to copy the code again.

Reload your website after a few minutes. The widget shows your posts again, and **Requires Re-Auth** goes away. If more than one widget shows the message, do these steps for each widget.

You may also get an email from SnapWidget with the subject "RE: Your SnapWidget widget needs to be updated". It has a link to the widget that needs your attention.

## If the message does not go away

> **You signed in to a different account**
>
> If your browser is signed in to a different Instagram, Facebook, X or TikTok account, log out of it first, or use a private browser window. Then click **Reconnect** again.

> **Nothing happens when you click Reconnect**
>
> Your browser can block the sign-in window. See [Nothing happens when I click the username field](/docs/troubleshooting/username-field).

> **The account belongs to someone else**
>
> If you made a Pro Instagram widget for a client, you can send them a link to connect their own account. See [Send For Auth](/docs/instagram/send-for-auth).
