# Why is my widget displaying a message that it needs to be upgraded?

> This message shows on very old SnapWidget codes. Make a new widget and replace the old code on your website.

Your website shows **Your widget needs to be upgraded** when it still has the code of a SnapWidget widget made before June 2016. These old codes stopped working when Instagram changed its rules. You cannot fix an old code. Make a new widget and put its code on your website in place of the old one.

> [!TIP]
>
> To check your code, look at the address in it. Current widget codes contain `snapwidget.com/embed/`. Old codes have an address like `snapwidget.com/in/?u=...`.

**1. Sign up or log in**

[Sign up](https://snapwidget.com/signup) for a free SnapWidget account, or [log in](https://snapwidget.com/login).

**2. Create a new widget**

Create a widget and connect your account. See [Create an Instagram widget](/docs/getting-started/create-an-instagram-widget). Free widgets cost nothing.

**3. Copy the code**

Click **Get Widget**. In the **You're One Step Away** window, click **Copy To Clipboard**.

**4. Replace the old code**

On your website, delete the old SnapWidget code and paste the new code in its place. See the guide for [your website builder](/docs/install/html-website).

> [!NOTE]
>
> You need a creator or business Instagram account. Personal accounts no longer work. If you have a personal account, [switch to a creator account](/docs/instagram/switch-to-a-creator-account) first.
