# Can I use an X (Twitter) widget without an X account?

> You need an X account to make an X (Twitter) widget, because the widget reads posts through the account that you connect.

No. An X (Twitter) widget gets its posts through the X account that you connect in the widget builder. Without an X account, the widget cannot read any posts.

You can still show posts from other people. Connect your own X account, then use a [hashtag widget](/docs/x/hashtag-widget) to show public posts that use a hashtag.
