尾岱沼（白鳥台）や野付半島、風蓮湖などに渡ってきて、冬が始まるころまで滞在します。
「白鳥の湖」から、可憐な姿を想像してしまいますが、実際のハクチョウはなかなか筋肉逞しく、飛び立つときの水面の蹴りも力強いです。
