「新しい年の始まりを4丁目の鐘で迎えたい」という声にお応えし、1983年より鳴らしている「新年のチャイム」は、今回で37回目を迎えます。
新年を迎える45秒前、和光の時計塔のウエストミンスター式チャイムが2019年のプロローグを奏で始め、鳴り終わるとその余韻の後に12打の午前0時の鐘が続きます。
その第1打が鳴り響く瞬間が、まさに新年、2019年の幕開けです。
和光本館全体もライトアップされ、銀座の夜空にその姿を浮かび上がらせます（ライトアップは0:20までの予定です）。
