街の中の岡本太郎
「母の塔」
川崎市岡本太郎美術館建設の際に美術館のシンボルとして岡本太郎が選んだのが母の塔です。
それは過去にアルジェリア独立記念のモニュメントとなるはずだった作品です。7本の足でどっしり大地に根をおろし、純白のふくよかなフォルムからは男、女、子どもの彫刻が宇宙に向かって飛び出しています。
岡本は「解放の喜び」を表した彫刻のイメージに、母なる大地の逞しさ、おおらかさを重ねあわせ《母の塔》と名付けました。
