アジリティなどの競技をしているアスリートドッグの場合、エネルギー要求量は室内で暮らすわんこと比べると、とても多くなります。
通常、犬の1日あたりのエネルギー要求量（kcal）は、体重とその子に合わせた活動係数を使って算出します。
活動係数は運動量が多ければ多いほど、数字が大きくなります。
